Red Lantern
Being a huge MasterChef and Luke Nguyen fan I had to try Red Lantern on a recent visit to Sydney. I would definitely recommend booking! I booked three months in advance and got one if the last tables. My friend and I shared three entrees and a main so we could sample different items. There is also a Tasting Menu available which looked great!
We tried Muc Rang Muoi - Lightly battered chilli salted squid. This has to be the best squid I have ever tasted! Banh Tom - Aunty 5’s rice cakes with tiger prawns, caramelised pork, pork floss and shallot oil. The pork floss was very interesting! Like fairy floss but made out of pork! Again, very good. Goi Du Du - Twice cooked pork belly, tiger prawns, green papaya, perilla and mint. Very refreshing and tasty. For our main we had the infamous Ga Chien Don - Crispy skin Burrawong pasture raised chicken poached in master stock with ginger, shallot and oyster sauce. I would go back for that any day of the week! By the end of our meal we couldn't fit anything else in! The meal sizes were a good size. I hate it when you get a tiny meal and pay an enormous price. I don't get to go out to fancy restaurants very often, being a stay at home mum, but Red Lantern was worth the money. The staff were friendly and helpful when we were deciding what to order. I'll be planning another trip there in the future!
