Sails on the bay in Elwood celebrated 15 years in business last February. What a tale it could tell. The restaurant has seen everything from magical sunsets to wild and exciting lightening storms (lately even dolphins) No single day is the same as the last. Your dining canvas is constantly changing.

Sails on the bay features four distinct spaces offering restaurant fine dining, casual cafe terrace lunching and weekend breakfasts, private dining and a dedicated wedding and conference facility.

Dining Room

This is where it all began. The dining room offers the most amazing views of Port Philip. Opening in 1994 with a more casual approach this beautiful room has grown up. The ceilings are indeed draped in sails which soften the room as well as gentle lighting which provide an elegant ambience. The venue softly lights up the beach at night so your dining experience is enhanced. Like dining on a cruise ship, no seat is a bad seat when you have this view. Set with crisp white linen and quality service-ware. The menu reflects the location without bowing to it completely. You may enjoy a tea smoked quail or a Carpaccio of salmon with scallops, then again they have rabbit on the menu and deep sea blue eye. The menu changes seasonally and is developed with internationally renowned owner and Chef who learnt his trade at The Connaught and The Savoy in London with Delia Smith crediting him with the “best truffle torte recipe” ever. He works with a young and exciting team of chefs to develop this lovely fresh modern Australian menu. The staff at Sails on the bay pride themselves with their knowledge. They are warm and friendly and truly enjoy what they do – making your experience special. The atmosphere at sails on the bay is always a welcoming one because without you, the guest, where would the restaurant be?

Private Dining Room

The private dining room at Sails on the bay is situated at the Brighton end of the venue and has a capacity to seat up to 40 guests. Menus are offered to suit your needs and budget from a two course option to the opulent degustation menu. This room is elegant yet simple with a picture window out onto the beach. Dedicated waiter-staff will liaise with you to ensure that all your needs are met.

Café/Terrace

The casual terrace opens up the whole bay to you. You can sit enjoying breakfast, read the newspaper and feel the sea breeze wafting gently. Heated in winter, this delightful terrace may be hired for evenings. It can be dressed up for you to enjoy a dinner, a cocktail party with friends, for business or even your birthday. The terrace offers all day breakfast on the weekends and lunch from 12 during the week.

Event Room

This large and beautifully attired event room has been host to some of the most stunning brides in Melbourne. From grand floral displays to low lit candles on mirrors. Each has brought their presence to the room. Not only brides though dress the room, the corporate clients have had fun here too. Full of natural light, the Event Room can host conferences from 10 – 100 with lunch served in the room or moving across to the main dining room. With a range of styles to choose from whether you are conferencing or product launching or even being married, the Event Room staff will be able to help you source whatever you need to make the event yours. Their knowledge is invaluable in ensuring the restaurant reflects your high standards.

Desserts and Cakes

Sails on the bay employs a full time pastry chef who has worked throughout Europe. He is responsible for the unwanted kilos some of us have as well as the desserts and cakes offered by the restaurant. His range of wedding cakes are stunning and he is happy to work with you to design the style and type of cake you require for any occasion.
