The Austral Hotel

Situated in the heart of the East End on Rundle Street, the Ionic Austral Hotel has long been recognised as a favourite amongst the greater population of Adelaide and of course those just visiting. The Austral Hotel was built in the early to mid 1800’s using Square Sandstone and Stucco. Ernest Cohen first opened the doors of the Hotel formerly known as ‘The Family Hotel’ on December 8th 1879. 28 years on to the day (Dec 8th 1907), The Austral Hotel was branded. Now trading in its 130th year, the Austral continues to grow from strength to strength. December 4th 2008 saw the changing of the guards at the Austral yet again and with the hype of the purchase out of the way, a new vision began. To recreate the Eating & Drinking houses of yesteryear where it was not uncommon to sit and enjoy a beautifully home cooked meal with an array of perfectly handcrafted artisan beers. With great service, a unique and intimate space the Austral produces a memorable experience for each and every one of our friends. The Austral offers a unique sun soaked outdoor seated area perfect for that long afternoon catch up with friends, 2 front bars, a dining room with an open fire place, a balcony on the first level, 3 function rooms and a restaurant at the rear of the building. The restaurant is currently open for lunch on Fridays and dinner on both Friday and Saturday evenings. In addition this space is available for mid week bookings to suit a number of private functions, meetings or corporate conferences.

The Austral also offers 10 rooms of Retro style accommodation on the second level of the hotel. Music is always a feature at the Austral with live acts dj’s performing each week Thursday to Sunday from around the country and strong support from local established and up and coming performers. So drop in and have a drink, and say hello to one of our friendly bar staff, everyone is welcome at the Austral.
