Hobart TAS 7000
The Islington Hotel is a stately home for those seeking a gracious and elegant retreat amid a charming and tranquil setting.
Build in 1842 in Regency style, set amid an acre of established gardens on the fringe of central Hobart, Islington nestles in the foothills of Mt Wellington drawing its stature and calm from the imposing backdrop of the mountain and its many and frequently changing moods.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Inside, surrounded by rich and luxurious furnishings, the emphasis is on relaxation, informality, comfort and style.
Both the house and gardens have a Heritage listing. With deep comfortable beds, antique furnishings, an eclectic gallery of original artworks and views to the garden, each guest room has unique personality and individuality. You can sense, feel and breathe the best of yesteryear as you unwind in the personal space of your own room, or by the log fire in the sumptuous drawing room, or under the graceful fronds of the 100 year old willow as the spirituality of the mountain envelops you.
The sylvan setting belies its location just 10 minutes from the centre of Hobart with its historic waterfront, restaurants, artisan’s shops and the grace and pace of an unhurried era. Or further afield, the vineyards, the National Parks and the historic townships with either Islington or its sister property, The Priory Country Lodge, Tasmania’s newest and most exclusive fishing and hunting lodge, awaiting you at the end of a fulfilling day.
The Priory built in 1848 has been stunningly refurbished offering four suites with en-suite marble bathrooms, a cosy library with roaring log fire, formal sitting and drawing rooms, informal sun bathed conservatory, hunt room and fabulous country kitchen. The Priory like The Islington has been designed and decorated using exquisite antiques, fabrics and artworks from both Tasmania and abroad.

Exceptional accommodation. Possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in and the glass conservatory in the middle of the hotel is a great place for a nice drink.
We stayed at the Islington Hotel for four nights in Jan 2010. It is a small intimate boutique hotel. The setting and accommodation were fantastic. The rooms were beautifully styled and lavishly appointed. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff when requests were made. Only minor complaint was very small portions of very tasty food at dinner. Would definitely recommend the establishment and would stay there again when in Hobart.
